Frederick County Health Department Selects Channel to Communicate Gun Safety

Agency created PSA to educate the benefits of properly locking and storing of firearms to help stave off suicide.

BALTIMORE, MD, March 5, 2025 — Channel Communications was awarded a marketing assignment from the Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) for creation of a 60/30/15 TV/video PSA to communicate how proper storage of firearms can help stop suicide. Since 2015, 79% of local firearm deaths in Frederick County have been attributed to suicide. Firearms are the most frequently used method in suicide among men, seniors, and veterans.

FCHD has partnered with the Frederick County Suicide Prevention Coalition to introduce people to treatments and harm reduction programs to further educate on the topic of suicide and resources made available. The spot strongly focuses on the need of properly storing firearms. “Gun safety and suicide are two very important topics. With the proper procedures, suicide can definitely be avoided” said Rick Grant, Vice President of Channel Communications. “By simply locking and storing your firearm, lives can be saved.”
